The VHA and Department of Defense (DoD) have collaboratively developed evidence-based clinical practice guidelines since the 1990s. Guidelines provide evidence-based information to support provider and patient decision making regarding the best plan of care for a particular condition. A newly updated VA/DoD guideline is the VA/DoD Bi-Polar Disorder Clinical Practice Guideline. All VA/DoD guidelines are available on the internet at http://www.healthquality.va.gov.

The new VA/DoD Management of Diabetes Mellitus in Primary Care Clinical Practice Guideline is available at http://www.healthquality.va.gov/Diabetes_Mellitus.asp.

The VHA and Department of Defense (DoD) have collaboratively developed evidence-based clinical practice guidelines since the 1990s. The VA/DoD Management of Diabetes Mellitus in Primary Care guideline provides information that is evidence-based and unbiased by conflict of interest. The guideline supports shared provider and patient decision making, assisting the incorporation of patient preferences into an agreed upon care plan for veterans with diabetes.

The VA/DoD Management of Stroke Rehabilitation clinical practice guideline provides information that is evidence-based and unbiased by conflict of interest. The guideline is intended to improve patient outcomes and local management of patients who have suffered a stroke.

This Combined VA/DoD Satellite Program is offered in support of the Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines developed for the Management of Diabetes Mellitus. This Live Satellite Broadcast will air live on September 15, 2011, 12 Noon Eastern Time, and will have subsequent re-broadcasts during September - December, 2011. VA/DoD - Integrating the Clinical Practice for Pregnancy in Primary Care

This course is jointly offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Employee Education System in collaboration with Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Quality, Safety and Value, Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline Program and Department of Defense TRICARE Management Activity and U.S. Army Medical Command, Evidence-Based Practice.

Program Description: Care of woman during pregnancy is one of the most frequent reasons for an ambulatory care visit across the DoD with over 100,000 births per year. Within the VHA population the number of women presenting for health care and pregnancy is increasing steadily. With the changes in the Management of Pregnancy Clinical Practice Guideline, there is a potential knowledge gap in key areas related to the management of pregnant patients. This knowledge based activity is directed towards health care professionals caring for pregnant women, including obstetricians, family practice providers, nurses and support staff. The purpose of the broadcast is to introduce and update health care team members to the VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of Pregnancy, discuss key implications of the Guideline for care of the pregnant woman, and describe how to integrate use of supporting tools into practice when caring for the pregnant patient.

Location: Your location for viewing the live broadcast or rebroadcast is at viewer discretion and as your facility's resources permit.
Audience: Physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, and other healthcare clinicians involved in the care of pregnant female patients.
